Clinician educators provide patient care while mentoring students

Beginning in spring 2020, clinician educators joined the faculty team at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis. These specialized faculty are practicing nurse practitioners and physician assistants (P.A.s) within UC Davis Health and California community clinics. The role of the clinician educators includes:

  • Provide direct patient care at practice locations
  • Precept second-year P.A. and family nurse practitioner students at their practice locations
  • Support ongoing curriculum improvements, including current clinical practice standards
  • Teach hands-on skills and didactic content to students in their areas of clinical expertise
  • Mentor student acquisition of clinical skills including patient communication, physical exams, clinical reasoning and professionalism

Nov. 3 – Nursing dean and faculty serve during multicultural health fair
The School of Nursing’s Dean Stephen Cavanagh and Professor Holly Kirkland-Kyhn joined Associate Professor Brent Luu for the 6th Annual East & West Health Fair on Nov. 3. Hosted by the Sacramento Chinese Culture Foundation, the event brings together Eastern and Western providers, as well as students from various schools and health care systems within the Sacramento and Greater Sacramento areas, to serve hundreds of patients who may have limited access to care. More than 80 health care organizations and vendors engaged with more than 1,000 community residents in this historical health fair, community business and cultural event.
