The Betty Irene Moore Fellowship for Nurse Leaders and Innovators is a national program to develop the next generation of nurse leaders and innovators. The fellowship program recognizes and advances early- to mid-career nursing scholars and innovators with high potential to accelerate leadership in nursing-science research, practice, education, policy and entrepreneurship. Betty Irene Moore Fellows develop skills and confidence in leadership and innovation improving health care delivery and advancing health.
The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation funded five cohorts of fellows, with the fifth cohort concluding its three-year program on June 30, 2027. For more information, email the national program office at hs-NurseLeaderFellows@ucdavis.edu.
Betty Irene Moore Fellow receives Innovation Award from American Nurses Association

Sheridan Miyamoto, 2020 cohort Betty Irene Moore Fellow, received the 2025 Innovation Award from the American Nurses Association for her work on the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination Telehealth (SAFE-T) System, a health care model that expands access to high-quality forensic medical care for survivors of sexual assault.
Miyamoto received the $50,000 award March 11 at a special online ceremony. The award honors novel, scalable approaches to improving patient care and health outcomes while supporting the production and implementation of these innovations.
Betty Irene Moore Fellow publishes ethnography book about cancer care in India
Virginia LeBaron, 2023 cohort Betty Irene Moore Fellow, published "Caring in Context: An Ethnography of Cancer Nursing in India."
Moved by the challenging conditions faced by nurses in India, Virginia LeBaron was inspired to write a book highlighting the need for more equitable global cancer care. As a 2023 cohort Betty Irene Moore Fellow, she aims to amplify this message and drive meaningful policy change.
LeBaron's book, "Caring in Context: An Ethnography of Cancer Nursing in India" offers an account of how nurses navigate the challenges of providing cancer care in resource-limited settings, highlighting the need for global attention and advocacy.
