The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis Health seeks scholars for the Heather M. Young Postdoctoral Fellowship. The school especially seeks scholars with research interests in family caregiving, development of technology to promote healthy aging as well as community-based approaches to improving quality of life and care for older adults. Up to two fellows will be admitted to one-year appointments based on alignment with a research mentor and focus. Fellows may potentially be eligible for renewal for a second year.
About the fellowship
The fellowship program is sponsored by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation in recognition of the school’s founding dean, Heather M. Young (2008-2018), and her career-long commitment to healthy aging. The fellowship was created to further advance the school’s ongoing healthy aging research and also prepare future faculty to teach and continue research in healthy aging.
Scholars receive an annual salary based on the National Institutes for Health postdoctoral salary scale, University of California benefits, and supplemental funding for professional development. The primary work location will be on the UC Davis Health campus in Sacramento, California. This is not an H1-B opportunity.
Scholars receive an annual salary based on the National Institutes for Health postdoctoral salary scale, University of California benefits and supplemental funding for professional development. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 23: Postdoctoral Scholar-Employee, Postdoctoral Scholar-Fellow, Postdoctoral Scholar-Paid Direct, Fiscal Year. The salary range for this position is $60,000 – $71,952. Off-scale salaries, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.

Alex Fauer, Ph.D., R.N., O.C.N., Assistant Professor: Fauer's research aims to improve the health and wellbeing of cancer survivors and their caregivers through rigorous research. His current projects examine the nature and burden of the challenges they face and develop interventions to improve outcomes and inform policy and practice
Jennifer H. Lingler, Ph.D., R.N., F.A.A.N., Professor and Associate Dean for Research: Lingler's research focuses on psychosocial and ethical issues in dementia care and research. Her current federally funded projects aim to understand the real-world implications of biomarker-informed diagnoses and evaluate the use of narrative to promote early dementia detection among persons at heightened risk.
Scholars are required to have a doctorate in nursing or a related field. The school especially seeks scholars with research interests related to older adults or family caregivers that also align with those of faculty in the school. Successful candidates are paired with participating faculty mentors based on area of focus and interest.

This position’s salary is Postdoctoral Scholar Experience-based. Please refer to Table 23 for the salary range for this position on the Postdoctoral Scholarship salary scale.
