Angelica de Leon-Renteria, D.N.P., F.N.P.-B.C., R.N.
Assistant Clinical Professor
Angelica de Leon-Renteria is an assistant clinical professor at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. As a clinician educator, de Leon-Renteria provides patient care at the Camarena Health Center in Madera, California, where she precepts and mentors family nurse practitioner and physician assistant students.
A board-certified family nurse practitioner, de Leon-Renteria has nearly 25 years of experience providing patient care in the California Central Valley. She also served as an adjunct clinical nursing instructor in undergraduate and graduate nursing programs for the past five years. Her philosophy of teaching revolves around making excellence in teaching the target goal. She seeks to impart to students the great value of the trust that patients place on providers when they entrust in them their health and well-being.
Her scholarly work focuses on nursing education. For her Doctor of Nursing Practice dissertation, she studied the improvement of tools to assess nurse practitioner student competence. Through the project, she successfully redesigned the evaluation tools used in the clinical setting by both preceptors and faculty to train nurse practitioners. She also created instructional videos on the use of the tools. She seeks to continue her research trajectory involving the increased competency of nurse practitioner students to maximize student potential.
Prior to joining the School of Nursing faculty, de Leon-Renteria served as an adjunct faculty at both California State University, Fresno and Fresno Pacific University. As a nurse practitioner, she dedicated her career to serving the migrant farmworkers population for the first 20 years of her career.
She earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of San Francisco, a Master of Science in Nursing Degree from California State University, Fresno and a nurse practitioner postgraduate certificate from UC Davis. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Health Science Community Health and an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from California State University, Fresno.
Widely recognized for both her scholarly and clinical contributions, de Leon-Renteria was nominated Doctor of the Year in 2015 by her patients and featured in the Lantern Publication. She was awarded the 23rd Annual Hispanic Excellence in Clinical Practice Award in 2016. She also spoke at the fifth annual Minority Nurse Summit Gold Medal Leadership Strategies for Minority Nurses. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the California Association of Nurse Practitioners and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
