As the country celebrates The Year of the Nurse this National Nurses Week May 6-12, the School of Nursing celebrates all the health care heroes who are working hard to support our communities during the COVID-19 crisis. This issue celebrates the work of students, alumni, donors, faculty and more who lead us toward a future of optimal health and health care equity for all.
Fall finds the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing in a new quarter with more than 300 students working diligently to pursue dreams of becoming providers, clinicians and researchers. Celebrating Nurses Week. This issue highlights the new role for Founding Dean Heather M. Young as she transitions from her leadership position to focus on healthy aging research. Learn how an alumnus and his wife, a current student, choose to demonstrate for their children the value of investing in education. Also featured are highlights from the Family Caregiving Institute’s summit with nationwide thought leaders, as well as alumni participation in a regional nursing research conference.
Fine tuning our focus. This issue examines how School of Nursing leadership hones research and education strengths for the future. Learn why a School of Nursing clinical professor chose to support students who have experience in policy work or advocacy as well as a commitment to interprofessional collaboration. Also featured are highlights from the pinning ceremony for students in the inaugural Master’s Entry Program in Nursing class.
Bright futures launch here. This issue features highlights from the grand opening celebration of Betty Irene Moore Hall, the new home for the School of Nursing. Learn how alumni choose to invest in their alma mater through naming spaces and donating art. Also featured are an innovative research project aimed at increasing support for Latina caregivers and the profile of a family nurse practitioner pursuing the ultimate in person-centered health care thanks to generous support from donors.
Reimagining caregivers, redesigning education. This issue introduces the new Family Caregiving Institute, an initiative of the School of Nursing launched to support those who care for the well-being of other, a donor reinvesting in the school and future students focused on home health care, a scholarship recipient intent on serving as a role model for future nurses, and an innovative tool to foster new communication in the classroom.
Collaboration promises big impact. This issue showcases how philanthropic investment contributes to a novel advanced illness care program, how specially designed classrooms support the School of Nursing’s education philosophy and how a mother’s commitment to others inspired a scholarship to celebrate her legacy.

This National Nurses Week issue features highlights from School of Nursing researchers using mobile technology and nurse coaching to help those living with diabetes better manage their chronic illness, as well as features of donors supporting nurse educators and a creative collaboration with AARP to support family caregivers.

Strong Foundation, Bright Futures. This issue features highlights from the groundbreaking celebration for Betty Irene Moore Hall, as well as profiles of a graduate student dedicated to advocacy and alumni leading a new initiative at California’s largest hospital provider.

A Community of Caregivers. This issue illustrates how the School of Nursing works to support the growing network of caregivers balancing their caregiving role with other important roles within the community. Also included are profiles of the first recipient of the National Advisory Council Endowed Scholarship and a School of Nursing supporter who established a scholarship in honor of his late wife.
