Admissions criteria
The Primary Care APP Fellowship Search Committee evaluates applicants based on their eligibility, relevant experiences, as well as personal and professional attributes. Admission decisions are driven by a commitment to diversity and dedication to caring for the medically underserved.

- Must be a registered nurse (RN) with an unrestricted California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) RN license
- Must have graduated with a master’s or doctoral degree from an accredited family, adult gerontological, women's health, psychiatric mental health or pediatric primary care nurse practitioner program within 18 months of the start of the Primary Care APP Fellowship program which is Oct. 1, 2025 (NP program completion cannot be earlier than Apr. 1, 2024).
- Applicants who are pursuing but will not have completed their doctoral degree are eligible but must have completed the NP education portion of their DNP program (allowing them to take a national certification exam by the dates outlined in the Credentialing Documents Checklist) within the 18-month window stated above.
- Must have ability to work full-time in a practice setting at least 40 hours per week, which may include some evening hours or an occasional weekend
- Must be willing to practice in an underserved or rural setting
- Must be nationally board certified in your population category (see specific certification deadlines below)
- Must provide the following credentialing documents (see specific certification deadlines based upon your group below).
- California BRN unrestricted RN license
- California nurse practitioner certification
- California furnishing number certification
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- National Provider Identification (NPI) number
- Completed Schedule II Controlled Substances course
- Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) license

The Credentialing Documents Checklist outlines the documents that must be submitted prior to starting the program. Locate and carefully review the Credentialing Documents Checklist that applies to you based on your graduation date and whether you completed your NP program within or outside of California.
Applicants are strongly advised to plan well in advance to meet these deadlines. Waiting to start the certification process until you are offered an interview or are accepted into the program may not allow enough time to meet the deadlines, which could cause you to be dropped from the program.
