Emily Thatcher, M.P.A.S., P.A.-C.
Assistant Clinical Professor
Emily Thatcher initiated her healthcare journey as an orthopedic technician, drawing inspiration from her experiences as a Division 1 athlete on the basketball court and in the athletic training room. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Business from New Mexico State University and her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the MGH Institute of Health Professions.
Following the completion of her P.A. training, Thatcher began clinical work in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Trauma at Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining UC Davis, she served as an adjunct instructor at the Duke University Physician Assistant Program, where she also precepted students while working as an Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C.
Beyond clinical practice, Thatcher has presented at professional conferences, including the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Society of General Internal Medicine, and Developing EM. She has contributed to scientific journal publications, with articles featured in PLOS Global Health and Surgical Innovation. In 2021, Thatcher served as a contributing author to The JAAPA QRS Review for PAs: Study Plan and Guide for PANCE and PANRE.
In addition to her teaching and clinical endeavors, Thatcher's research interests encompass improving health literacy and addressing social determinants of health in Latinx communities, exploring global health in emergency medicine, and improving patient care for opioid use disorder in the emergency department.
