The Betty Irene Moore Fellowship for Nurse Leaders and Innovators is a national program to develop the next generation of nurse leaders and innovators. The fellowship program recognizes and advances early- to mid-career nursing scholars and innovators with high potential to accelerate leadership in nursing-science research, practice, education, policy and entrepreneurship. Betty Irene Moore Fellows develop skills and confidence in leadership and innovation improving health care delivery and advancing health.
The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation funded five cohorts of fellows, with the fifth cohort concluding its three-year program on June 30, 2027. For more information, email the national program office at NurseLeaderFellows@health.ucdavis.edu.
Betty Irene Moore Fellows gather in nation's capital for sixth annual Convocation
Betty Irene Moore Fellows gathered in Washington, D.C. for Convocation 2025. They were joined for two days by nurses from the Hillman Scholars in Nursing Innovation and grantees of The Rita and Alex Hillman Foundation.
For the first time since its launch, the national program office for the Betty Irene Moore Fellowship for Nurse Leaders and Innovators held its annual Convocation June 25-30 in Washington, D.C.
Fellows were joined for two days of the event by nurses from the Hillman Scholars in Nursing Innovation and grantees of The Rita and Alex Hillman Foundation. Shared activities focused on the intersection of policy, politics and nursing innovation.
The gathering also marked the completion of the program for the 2022 cohort of Betty Irene Moore Fellows.
Betty Irene Moore Fellow receives Innovation Award from American Nurses Association

Sheridan Miyamoto, 2020 cohort Betty Irene Moore Fellow, received the 2025 Innovation Award from the American Nurses Association for her work on the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination Telehealth (SAFE-T) System, a health care model that expands access to high-quality forensic medical care for survivors of sexual assault.
Miyamoto received the $50,000 award March 11 at a special online ceremony. The award honors novel, scalable approaches to improving patient care and health outcomes while supporting the production and implementation of these innovations.
