As this magazine issue shows, UC Davis Health is cultivating a presence that will be seen, heard and felt by patients, families, and communities throughout Northern California for decades to come.
The 48X Complex, described in the cover feature story, opened its doors to patients this summer, ushering in one of the largest and most advanced outpatient surgery facilities in the entire country. This extraordinary facility offers high-tech, patient-friendly and same-day surgeries to help us address the shortage of outpatient operating room capacity at the main hospital, which in turn expands patients’ access to care throughout our system.
48X is a major milestone in UC Davis Health being truly patient centric and focused on delivering care and information how, when, and where patients need us.
Also this summer, we opened the Folsom Medical Office Building, another strategic leap forward in bringing care directly to our patients closer to where they live. The central point of our Folsom facility is that it will offer more expertise in more specialties, as it consolidates three existing Folsom clinics and adds imaging and infusion services.
Along with this, we unveiled our C Street Clinics in East Sacramento this spring, which brings medical and behavioral health services under one roof, offering innovative treatments in a wide range of specialties. All of this growth — and more ahead — is aligned with our Vision 2030 plan aimed at optimally caring for patients and communities throughout our 65,000-square-mile, 33 counties catchment area.
Innovation, progress
The pages ahead highlight some of our more recent strides in medical care, research, and educational efforts. For example, we’ve teamed up with partners to open a heart failure clinic for underserved populations and to launch an innovative remote blood pressure monitoring program that empowers patients and that we believe will improve their health. We’re also now designated as a Special Pathogen Treatment Center, among other news that you’ll see.
In all of this, engaging with patients in a personalized care decision-making process is critical. As Theodore Roosevelt may have said, “Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.”
Our advances continue to attract national and regional attention. For the 14th consecutive year, the UC Davis Medical Center was ranked the No. 1 hospital in the Sacramento region by U.S. News & World Report. Also, our health system was named the No. 7 hospital in California, marking an 11-year streak in the state’s top 10, according to the 2025–2026 U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals rankings.
Resilience, teamwork
As always, UC Davis Health is driven by strategic growth, innovation, and resilience. We understand and value our key role as a foundational health system for our region — and we know we are facing challenging headwinds today in this realm. Our leadership across the UC system remains absolutely committed to advocating for sustainable federal research funding and policies that support innovation in patient care.
What gives me inspiration and confidence is what I see our teams doing each day — how they bring that extra compassionate touch to patients, how they’re always seeking to understand what can be done better the next day, and how they collaborate with colleagues whenever a need, big or small, arises.
This is who we are — teamwork and collaboration define all that we undertake at UC Davis Health.
Thank you for sharing this journey!
