A welcome message from our chief residents

As chief residents, we are passionate about our program and excited to introduce you to it. In talking to our co-residents, here are some key reasons why we have loved our training at UC Davis:

  • A supportive culture of open dialogue with the goal of continually improving the program
  • A commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion efforts from the top of the department down
  • Clinical training across varied academic and community sites, and working with and learning from a patient population that is culturally, economically and socially diverse
  • Protected time for leadership, advocacy, research and resident wellness
  • Living in sunny Sacramento

For more, read our take on “Why train at UC Davis?”

Warmly,

Sandy Ngo Moubarek (PGY-4), Senior Chief Resident
Monique Waltman (PGY-3), Associate Chief Resident
Ebony Onianwa (PGY-3), Associate Chief Resident

Protected Didactics

Didactics occur weekly on Wednesday afternoons in which residents are excused from their clinical duties.

Asynchronous Half-Days

Once a month, residents benefit from half-days of asynchronous learning. This flexible format allows them to engage with educational material at their own pace, providing valuable space for both personal and professional development.

CREWS (Communities for Resident Exploration and Wellness)

CREWS initiatives foster a supportive and collaborative environment by connecting residents and faculty. These subcommunities encourage professional growth and personal support through casual guidance and shared experiences.

Wellness Half-Days

Each year, residents have two dedicated wellness half-days free of clinical responsibilities.

Fall and Spring Retreats

Our program includes annual retreats (one half day in the fall and a full day in spring). These retreats provide a chance for residents to unwind, engage in community building, and reflect on their personal and professional growth in a supportive environment.

Process Group

An optional weekly process group is available for psychiatry residents. This group, led by external facilitators, offers a confidential space for residents to discuss personal experiences and professional challenges, fostering emotional resilience and peer support.
