    Fruit and Vegetable Foundation Gifts $10M to UC Davis

    The Fruit and Vegetable Foundation announced a $10 million gift to the University of California, Davis School of Medicine and UC Davis Health. This gift establishes the Douglas S. L. Howard, M.D. Endowed Chair in Nutrition for Transformative Healthcare and supports the development of the corresponding program. The UC Davis Nutrition for Transformative Healthcare Program will promote infrastructure, research, and outreach into Whole Food Nutritional Health with the goal of expanding the knowledge and understanding of how fruits and vegetables play an important role in supporting good health.

However, researchers from the University of California (UC) Davis, US, point to significant research gaps in interactions between wine’s compounds and those in food, even though wine is “nearly universally paired with food.”

  • Bariatric Surgery Program earns ACS reaccreditation

    The UC Davis Bariatric Surgery Program recently received a stellar review on re-accreditation from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Metabolic Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). The official review report found that “there is a clear, organization-wide commitment to excellence, with each team member demonstrating a dedicated approach to patient-centered care.”  Under the leadership of Mohamed Ali, M.D., medical director for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the program received high accolades from the MBSAQIP and achieved maximum re-accreditation as a comprehensive center.
