John M. Mott. Jr., M.D. (1915-1980), was a general surgeon who was instrumental in starting the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Sacramento and was its founding Physician-in-Chief. The UC Davis lectureship memorializes John M. Mott, Jr., M.D., the first chief of surgery and physician-in-chief of the Sacramento division of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Group. Mott was also influential in helping to create the UC Davis School of Medicine and organized the clinical affiliations between the teaching services at UC Davis School of Medicine and Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Sacramento.

His wife, Ann Mott, graciously provided funds to the Department of Surgery in his memory to support a visiting professor lectureship.
