How to Apply - General Psychiatry Residency | Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences | UC Davis Health

How to Apply

We will prioritize applications received by opening day, September 24, 2025.

Applications for PGY-1 positions will be accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) beginning in September and must be received by the date that ERAS application data is made available to residency programs, which in 2025 falls on September 24. We review all applications through a holistic review process. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications, if you submit after September 24, 2025, we are not able to guarantee that your application will be reviewed.

Three Letters of Recommendation

  • At least one from a psychiatrist familiar with your work
  • We also prefer to see a letter of recommendation from a primary care specialty (internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, or OB/GYN)

Internship

  • We strongly recommend that you complete an internal medicine, neurology, or pediatrics acting/sub-internship prior to the completion of medical school. We understand that that may not be able to happen prior to submitting your application.

Applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

Please refer to the California GME Licensure Requirements if you have any questions about your application eligibility.

Interviews will be scheduled on Tuesdays, beginning November 4 and run through the end of January 2026, and will be offered virtually only for the 2025-26 season. A typical interview day consists of info sessions with the program director and chief residents, and 4 to 5 one-on-one interviews with faculty and residents. In addition, optional events will be offered during the season to connect with more residents around any further questions you may have.

Dafhney Ferrer, M.D.
I chose UC Davis Psychiatry because I wanted to train where community wasn’t just a listed value, but something woven into the culture with intention and care. Every step of the way, I’ve been welcomed like family. We lift each other up, celebrate each other’s wins, and support each other through the hard days. I love that our program values compassion as much as clinical excellence. UC Davis Psychiatry nurtures curiosity, collaboration, and connection, encouraging growth not just as a professional, but as a whole person."Dafhney Ferrer, M.D., PGY-3
