Teaching Scholars Curriculum
The curriculum for the Interprofessional Teaching Scholars Program (ITSP) encompasses four core areas. The objectives of each are elaborated below along with the implementation plan summary.

Teaching/Learning
- Analyze the relationship between learning theory and teaching
- Apply different teaching/learning theories
- Analyze the use of technology to enhance learning
- Determine elements of instructional design
- Learn various learner-centered teaching strategies in a variety of settings including:
- Large groups
- Small groups
- Simulations
- Clinical
- Individual mentoring
- Provide effective feedback to diverse learners
- Describe the process of curriculum development
- Assess student learning through systematic approaches
- Participate in educational program evaluation design and implementation
- Describe one’s own educational philosophy and teaching style
Educational Scholarship
- Describe various types of educational scholarship
- Plan, implement, and disseminate a scholarly educational project
- Identify the various avenues of educational scholarship
Leadership
- Model leadership related to educational policy and advocacy
- Describe one’s own leadership style
- Develop one’s own educational career plan
- Analyze the roles and expectations for educational leadership
- Analyze the role of mentors in educational career development
- Assess educational leadership opportunities within and outside the university
Interprofessionalism
- Express a commitment to the value of interprofessionalism in health professionals education, research/scholarship and leadership
- Apply the principles of interprofessionalism in teaching, scholarship and leadership
- Articulate perspectives from health care professions other than one’s own related to education, scholarship and leadership
- Diversity, Equity and Inclusion — Express a commitment to the value of integrating cognitive diversity and inclusion in health professions education, research/scholarship and leadership to promote health equity
- Demonstrate strategies in teaching, research/scholarship and leadership that promote cognitive diversity, inclusion and health equity
ITSP Curricular Implementation Plan Summary
This nine-month program will be a hybrid model consisting of both in-person and online modules. Live sessions will begin on October 7, 2021 and will take place every other week through June 2022. The remaining sessions will be asynchronous, online seminars.. ITSP Scholars will be expected to attend 80 percent of the in-person and online sessions to receive a completion certificate. Some sessions will be available to faculty outside of the program, but these participants will not be part of the formal ITSP.
