Mission Statement

The UC Davis Health Department of Dermatology is committed to training dermatologists from a wide variety of educational, cultural and professional backgrounds, equipping them with broad skills to provide exceptional care to Sacramento’s diverse communities and beyond.

Program Aims

Our educational programs aim to:

• Prepare residents for academic practice or post-graduate fellowships, if they so desire
• Provide the opportunity for protected research time (in appropriate circumstances)
• Train physicians who actively give back to the profession through research, leadership at all levels, advocacy, care for underserved populations, education and mentoring
• Train ethical physicians who always provide care that is in the best interest of their patient
• Foster a passion for dermatology that inspires curiosity and a commitment to lifelong learning
• Create a collegial and positive atmosphere that enhances learning and makes the practice of medicine enjoyable
• Create an environment that promotes resident well-being and helps them develop habits that support an appropriate work-life balance throughout their professional career
• Select and develop faculty who are dedicated to teaching and who are well-equipped to support and implement programmatic aims
