UC Davis Cancer Center has introduced an education and orientation program for the 9,000 new patients who come to the center for treatment each year. Morning, afternoon and evening sessions are available. Separate orientation meetings are offered for breast cancer patients, through a grant from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Family members, friends and caregivers are welcome to attend orientation meetings with patients. All meetings are free.

"If you've just been diagnosed with cancer, it can be a difficult time," said Carol Case, the Cancer Center's patient orientation coordinator. "We hope this program will provide patients and their loved ones with some additional support as treatment begins."

New patients will receive information to help them prepare for their first visit with their doctor, learn about the programs and services provided at the Cancer Center, and hear suggestions about how to actively participate in their care.
