"Hope on Wheels," a national tour sponsored by the Hyundai Dealers Association to raise awareness of the need for pediatric cancer research funds, made a pit stop at UC Davis Cancer Center — the only Northern California visit on the 2005 trip.

As pediatric cancer patients, survivors and their siblings added their handprints to the Hope SUV's white metal canvas, local Hyundai dealers presented UC Davis with a $50,000 check to support childhood cancer research. "It felt good," said Kyle Raphael, 10, of Roseville, who made his handprint in memory of his brother Keaton. "We're helping kids with cancer. It just feels great." Keaton died in 1998 at age 5 of neuroblastoma.

When the Hope on Wheels tour ends, the SUV will feature several hundred handprints, each bearing the name and age of its owner. Hyundai Motor America and the Cure Search National Childhood Cancer Foundation co-sponsor the tour.
