Cancer researcher honored

Stephen Kowalczykowski, professor of microbiology at UC Davis, is a newly elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Election acknowledges individuals whose contributions are influential to their field and to society.

Kowalczykowski studies the molecular "machines" that copy and repair DNA, using unique equipment to film individual molecules at work on DNA in real time. DNA damage and repair are critical processes in cancer.
