PathWAYS Visiting Medical Student Clinical Rotations
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is excited to announce a unique opportunity for visiting medical students.
We invite eligible fourth-year medical students from other schools to participate in a four-week, in-person elective rotation at the UC Davis School of Medicine. This opportunity may be particularly appealing to students who are interested in matching into the UC Davis Pathology residency program.
Students in the program will receive:
- Reimbursement of travel costs to and from Sacramento; travel must be completed within a week of rotation dates (up to $1200)
- Reimbursement of food costs (up to $250)
- Reimbursement of the UC Davis application processing fee ($300)
- Reimbursement of housing expenses (up to $1250)
- Unique networking opportunities with Pathology department faculty, residents, fellows and student interest groups
Eligibility
Eligible participants are full-time, fourth-year medical students in good standing at an accredited U.S. medical school. Students remain registered at their own medical schools while participating in up to four weeks of electives at UC Davis. Each student must complete an application form through the American Association of Medical Colleges’ Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) Application Service.
Application Process
- Check here to see if your institution qualifies for the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities Program.
- Apply for PMD 464, Anatomic Pathology in VSLO at org/vslo. Note: Scholarship Applications will only be considered with a complete VSLO application.
- Submit a Visiting Elective Program (VEP) Scholarship application at hs-PathWAYS@health.ucdavis.edu. Please note that incomplete applications will not be considered.
- Submit a Letter of Intent (1 page maximum) and any supplemental materials to hs-PathWAYS@health.ucdavis.edu with "VEP [your name]" in the subject line. Your letter and supplemental materials must also be submitted to be considered for the scholarship.
- In your Letter of Intent, please describe your path to medicine and your interest in practicing at UC Davis Health and/or Northern California in approximately 500-700 words. You also should briefly explain your potential to contribute to your chosen elective program, as evidenced by your life experience, work experience, educational record, and demonstrated interest in community engagement.
