Curriculum for 3-Year Accelerated MD Programs | Primary Care & Psychiatry | UC Davis School of Medicine

Curriculum

An Accelerated, Immersive Path

The accelerated pathways immerse students in primary care or psychiatry practice throughout a rigorous, three-year medical school curriculum.

Students begin 6 weeks earlier than the traditional medical school track and continue learning through the summer after their first year. Break schedules (winter and spring) remain the same as traditional medical students.

In the third year, students participate in a Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC). This model provides:

  • Ongoing, real-world clinical experience
  • Strong relationships with patients and faculty
  • Training across multiple specialties at the same time

LICs prepare students as effectively as traditional rotations while building confidence and a strong focus on patient-centered care.

Rural Clinical Experience

Rural accelerated pathway students will be immersed in primary care or psychiatry clinical experiences in Sacramento and the target counties of Nevada, Shasta and Humboldt. Students gain hands-on experience through:

  • Summer immersion programs
  • 4 weeks of I-FOSTER training (between Years 1 and 2)
  • A 6-month placement in a target county during their LIC
