  • Rev. Samuel C.M. Brown-Dawson

    Rev. Samuel C.M. Brown-Dawson–Certified Educator/Manager

    Rev. Samuel C.M. Brown-Dawson is a chaplain, CPE educator, and manager of the Department. Born and raised in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, West Africa, he has served as a chaplain, pastor, and educator in churches and healthcare institutions, hospice providing pastoral/spiritual care for diverse patients and families.

    As a chaplain, Rev. Brown-Dawson knows what it means to be on the receiving side of medical care for himself and loved ones. He compassionately serves others, drawing from his knowledge and personal and professional experiences.

    Rev. Brown-Dawson enjoys spending time with his family, relatives, friends, and members of various religious and social groups, especially diasporan communities such as the Sierra Leone community in Sacramento. He also enjoys traveling for fun and missions and is a member of the Center of Praise Ministries.

  • Thomas Carter–CPE Educator/Supervisor

    Thomas Carter–CPE Educator/Supervisor

    Thomas is a graduate of Prairie View A&M University (B.S, Electrical Engineering, 1989) and Golden Gate University (M.Div., 2003). He was certified as a Clinical Pastoral Education Educator by ACPE, INC. in November 2013. Thomas served as an Educator in Texas, Tennessee, Michigan and California. He has also served as a staff chaplain, congregational assistant pastor, and project manager/engineer with the US Army Corps of Engineers. He has certifications in several other areas, as well. He is participating in D.Min. studies at Dallas Theological Seminary.

    Rashida O’Bannon–Admin Officer 2

    Rashida O’Bannon is a full time Administrative Officer II with Chaplaincy Services and Education at UC Davis Health. In her role, she supports the department by maintaining business operations and ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory standards. Rashida provides essential program support for the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program, contributes to Chaplaincy Services, and delivers comprehensive administrative assistance to the team.

    Dedicated, organized, and service oriented, Rashida brings a strong commitment to supporting the department’s mission of compassionate, person centered care.

    Rashida is married to Raymond O’Bannon Jr. of Sacramento Ca.

  • Tamara Bahlhorn

    Tamara Bahlhorn

    Bahlhorn is hospital chaplain with Sutter Health and Sutter Center for Psychiatry. A former alumnus of UC Davis Medical Center CPE Program, a member of APC, and a member of the UC Davis Professional Advisory Group for the past 5 years, currently serving as chair.

  • Daniel C. Oforlea

    Daniel C. Oforlea

    LCSW is a seasoned clinical social work leader with more than 25 years of experience in acute care hospitals, correctional mental health, and community-based systems. He currently serves as Chief LCSW for Clinical Social Services at UC Davis Health, where he provides 24/7 operational leadership, oversees clinical standards of practice, manages departmental budgets, and supervises licensed and associate social workers across hospitals, clinic, and satellite settings. He also serves as a mental health expert on executive leadership committees and leads workforce development, policy implementation, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Gloria O’Neal

    Gloria O’Neal

    Gloria O'Neal is a retired Parole Agent and a dedicated member of the UC Davis Medical Center Chaplaincy Board. With a background in Behavioral Science and over 20 years of service with the California Department of Corrections, she transitioned to volunteer work at the UC Davis Medical Center’s NICU and later became a volunteer chaplain. She also serves on the Sacramento Juvenile Justice Chaplaincy Board. Gloria is a Certified Life Coach and founded the Caring and Sharing Women’s Support Group in 2000, helping women navigate life’s challenges. Throughout her life, she has been committed to supporting others, from family to friends and strangers, with a special focus on helping women heal from personal losses. She is a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

  • Laura King, M.Div., BCC

    Laura King, M.Div., BCC

    Laura King is Board Certified by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC). She holds a Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary and completed her chaplain residency at UC Davis Medical Center. She provides chaplain support for the adult palliative service at the hospital as well as the Supportive Therapies and Enhanced Palliative Services (STEPS), which serves pediatric patients and their families. She is a published poet, an enthusiastic reader, a yoga practitioner, and a lover of animals.

  • Christine Haider-Winnett, BCC

    Christine Haider-Winnett, BCC

    Rev. Christine Haider-Winnett, BCC, serves as Palliative Care and Inpatient Hospice chaplain at UC Davis Medical Center. She received her MDiv from Pacific School of Religion and completed CPE at John Muir Medical Center (Concord).

  • Leeta Hightower

    Leeta Hightower–HR and Talent Acquisition Supervisor

    Letta is a UC Davis Health team member who brings a people-centered, system-level perspective to the CPE Professional Advisory Group. She brings a non clinical voice to the advisory group, grounded in kindness, service, and respect for the emotional and spiritual well being of those who care for others. In her work, she partners thoughtfully with leaders to support sustainable, compassionate environments where people can do their best work in service of patients and communities. Beyond her professional role, she is actively involved in volunteer efforts focused on community health awareness and advocacy, reflecting a personal commitment to empathy and care. Outside of work, she enjoys golfing and finds joy and grounding in spending time with her beloved pets.

    Rev.Roger Jones

    Rev.Roger Jones has served as a co-minister at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento since 2008. He has been an adjunct instructor at Starr King School for the Ministry and an officer in the Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association. He has been a PAG member since 2018.

  • Trina Stanford

    Trina Stanford

    Trina Stanford is a servant leader with 20 years’ psychology and counseling background experience. She is a current adjunct professor with American River College in which she teaches psychology. Her background includes previously working as a Grief Counselor with a hospice company providing compassionate and professional support to individuals dealing with loss. She has also served as a Volunteer Chaplain with UC Davis Health and currently serves as a member on the UC Davis Health Professional Advisory Group.

  • Darrell Desmond–CLINICAL NURSE III D-8 ONCOLOGY / BMT

    Darrell Desmond–CLINICAL NURSE III D-8 ONCOLOGY / BMT

    Darrell joined UCDH in 2002 as a student nurse extern. He earned his ADN from Sacramento City College, then a BSN from CSU Chico and MSN from the University of Phoenix. He won the Daisy award in 2005 and became oncology certified in 2008. He graduated from the Rising Nurse Leader Co-hort and served as clinical faculty for CSU Sacramento for over 7 years. Darrell worked as an Assistant Nurse Manager for Davis 8, until he left to become the Nurse Manager for East 4 Accelerated Access and Renal Services. He currently manages Davis 8 Oncology/ Bone Marrow Transplant and Renal Services. He is an active member within the Electronic Medical Record workgroup since inception, most recently serving as a lead for the 2015 CPM upgrade. He served as the chair of the Nursing Recognition Committee and is active in numerous hospital wide workgroups/committee. He served as vice chair for African American Faculty Staff Association (AAFSA) 2016-220.

    Terry E. Long Sr.–Chaplain 3

    Rev. Terry E. Long Sr is a Spiritual Care Specialist 3. currently serves as a member on the UC Davis Health Professional Advisory Group.

    Chaplain Terry is married to Michelle Long, he is the proud father of 4 children and 6 grandchildren. He enjoys reading, walking, spending time with his family and going on cruises.

    Tiffiney Rochelle is a Board-Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains and currently serves as a member on the UC Davis Health Professional Advisory Group.

    In her spare time, Chaplain Tiffiney enjoys cooking, traveling, exercising, reading, researching and spending time with her beloved family and friends
