Philosophy of Care

I have a simple approach to caring for my patients. I treat every child as if they were my own. This begins with communication, attitude, empathy, choosing the appropriate diagnostic testing that limits pain and exposure to radiation or anesthesia. Every test and surgery is a shared decision made with the family. I am always honored and humbled when families allow me to care for their children.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Kurzrock's practice is dedicated to the urologic care of infants and children. His areas of expertise include diagnosis and treatment of hypospadias, cloacal anomalies, neurogenic bladder, prenatal and congenital hydronephrosis, hernias, hydroceles, neurogenic bladder, disorders of sexual development, undescended testicles, urinary infection and vesico-ureteral reflux.

Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Kurzrock is actively involved in clinical and basic science investigations. His laboratory has been focused on studying urothelial cell biology, urothelial differentiation, adult and human embryonic stem cells and tissue engineering. The Pediatric Urology Laboratory was the first to identify urothelial adult stem cells, identify urothelial stem-like cells in culture and define the fate of transplanted bladder tissue. He has developed a unique technique for bladder bioengineering currently supported by an NIH RO1 grant. Dr. Kurzrock has been supported by grants from the Department of Defense (DOD), National Institutes of Health (NIH), California Institute of Regenerative Medicine and Shriners Hospital for Children.
