Diversity and Outreach
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UC Davis Health is committed to working towards becoming a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive department, residency, and specialty. We have the full support of the School of Medicine and the University of California in this effort backed by our system-wide Health Equity and Diversity Team.
We take pride in our commitment to diversity, focusing on selecting the most talented and qualified candidates for our resident and faculty positions. Our recent match results reflect this intentionality of welcoming more women and individuals from underrepresented backgrounds into our work family over the past several years. We believe that this diversity is essential to serve the diverse populations of California and we continue to prioritize it in all that we do.
Our faculty have published influential manuscripts focused on the continued lack of diversity in the orthopaedic workforce and have made strong recommendations on how to change the status quo. Additionally, we have presented and published numerous manuscripts examining the effects of gender, race, and ethnicity on access to orthopaedic surgical care and procedures.
Excellence requires diversity. In working to create a climate of equity and inclusion, we value the contributions of diverse faculty, trainees, staff, and patients as we strive to achieve excellence in patient care, education, and research. We acknowledge that our specialty of orthopaedic surgery stands far behind our peers in other medical fields, so we remain deliberate in our efforts and commitment toward this goal.
