Dissemination of knowledge is critical to the advancement of science, and publication of manuscripts achieves this goal as well as advancing your career.  Therefore, the UC Davis School of Medicine in encouraging manuscript submission by UC Davis medical students with monetary acknowledgements that go directly to students.  Our hope is that, over time, these "submitted" manuscripts become "published". In addition to monetary rewards, your achievement will be recognized on the UC Davis Medical Student Research website for others to see and celebrate.

 Awards:

  • $250 award for a submitted manuscript if the student is the first author
  • $100 award for a submitted manuscript if the student is in any other authorship position

Criteria for receiving an Award: 

  • Research should be done by the student while at UCD SOM; research performed prior to matriculating at UCD SOM does not qualify.
  • Research performed outside of UC Davis at a collaborating institution does qualify for these awards so long as the work was performed after matriculation at UCD SOM.
  • A given manuscript is only eligible for one Award; e.g. if a manuscript is submitted and an Award is given, but the manuscript is subsequently rejected by the journal and resubmitted to another, the manuscript is not eligible for a second award.

Applications for an Award need to include the following:

  • An email from the senior author/mentor confirming the following:
    • The student’s work was accomplished after matriculation
    • The student’s placement in the manuscript’s authorship order
  • Identify the journal to which the manuscript was submitted and provide a copy of the email from the journal confirming submission of the manuscript
