Patients are the number one priority of all practitioners at UC Davis Health and to best serve Northern California, our hospitalists have developed four committees that help bring out the best in one another. Take a look at the missions of our operations, education, quality improvement and scholarly work committees.
The Clinical Operations Committee at UC Davis Department of Internal Medicine is led by co-chairs Adrienne Atencio, M.D., and Diana Nguyen, M.D. Together with a dedicated team of hospitalists, we are committed to optimizing the operational excellence and clinical effectiveness of our hospitalist program.
Our committee plays a vital role in supporting the division by monitoring clinical and operational metrics, coordinating workflow and onboarding processes for new hires, maintaining up-to-date policies, procedures, and manuals, and ensuring a robust organizational structure. We are focused on optimizing performance, fostering inter-departmental collaboration, and driving quality improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and patient care.
Mission: To lead operational and clinical excellence through evidence-based practices, innovation, and collaboration, ensuring the highest standard of care for our patients.
Vision: To be a model of efficiency, quality, and safety in hospital medicine, driving initiatives that improve outcomes for patients and elevate the performance of our division.

Our Division:
The UC Davis Division of Hospital Medicine is devoted to promoting quality improvement, optimizing the patient experience, and advancing high-value care throughout the health system.
Our mission is to ensure the delivery of evidence-based care to all patients hospitalized on UC Davis Hospital Medicine Services. The QI Committee consists of a group of hospitalists and staff committed to transforming care through collaboration, innovation, and compassion.
The committee leads the Division’s Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) conferences, fostering open discussion and shared learning to enhance clinical practice and patient safety. It systematically reviews adverse events and near misses to identify opportunities for improvement and drive meaningful, system-level change. Moreover, several hospitalists are actively engaged in institutional initiatives that promote quality, safety, value, and efficiency across the broader UC Davis Health system.

The UC Davis Division of Hospital Medicine is dedicated to fostering a culture of academic inquiry and supporting its faculty and staff in the development of scholarly contributions. The Scholarly Works Committee (SWC) is comprised of hospitalists with a shared commitment to advancing medical knowledge through research, education, and publication.
The SWC has established a comprehensive resource center designed to assist faculty and staff in all stages of scholarly activity. This includes guidance on developing various types of scholarly works, identifying suitable journals for publication, navigating the Institutional Review Board (IRB) process, and accessing additional institutional resources. The SWC hosts writing collaboration meetings and sponsors a series of workshops throughout the year to promote skill development and collaboration in scholarly endeavors as well as networks with other institutions on collaborative projects.
