UC Davis Health strengthens community impact through new procurement commitment

National Small Business Week, May 3–9

(SACRAMENTO)

In recognition of National Small Business Week, May 3–9, 2026, UC Davis Health announced that it has signed the Healthcare Anchor Network’s Impact Procurement Commitment for 2026–30 for the first time, marking an important milestone in its ongoing efforts to strengthen communities through purchasing practices.

UC Davis Health has been an active member of the Healthcare Anchor Network since adopting its Anchor Institution Mission in 2020. Through this partnership, the organization has advanced impact purchasing and leveraged procurement to support local and small businesses. That foundation positions UC Davis Health to take on the Impact Procurement Commitment with experience and momentum.

The commitment is grounded in UC Davis Health’s Anchor Institution Mission. This strategic approach leverages the institution’s economic power — as a major employer, purchaser, and investor — to improve community health and well-being. Through AIM, UC Davis Health seeks to address the root causes of health inequities by expanding economic opportunity in the communities it serves, particularly those historically under-resourced.

By joining the Healthcare Anchor Network’s IPC, UC Davis Health is deepening its focus on more intentional, values-driven procurement. Impact purchasing strengthens ties with high-impact local businesses and builds their capacity, creating a multiplier effect that generates local value and supports stable local economies. This next chapter marks a strategic shift toward using supply chain decisions to advance health equity, recognizing that where and how dollars are spent can influence economic mobility, community stability, and long-term health outcomes.

“We are thrilled to join the Healthcare Anchor Network’s Impact Procurement Commitment,” said Annie Reyes-Salgado, vice president of support services. “This milestone reflects our commitment to aligning our purchasing practices with our anchor institution mission and values while creating greater opportunity for the communities we serve.”

The IPC brings together health systems nationwide that are working together to direct more of their purchasing toward businesses that generate positive social, economic and environmental outcomes. Participation provides UC Davis Health with a platform to collaborate, share best practices and accelerate progress.

“As we look ahead, we are energized by the opportunity to deepen our impact,” said Khoban Kochai, director of AIM in the Office for Health Equity by Design for Inclusive Excellence (HEDI). “Through AIM, we view procurement as a critical lever for change — one that enables us to reinvest in our communities and support businesses that reflect and serve them. We look forward to collaborating with peers across the Healthcare Anchor Network and to continuing this work together.”

Joining the IPC during National Small Business Week underscores UC Davis Health’s recognition of the role small and diverse businesses play in building resilient, thriving communities. Through this commitment, the organization aims to expand partnerships, strengthen local supply chains, and foster inclusive economic growth that improves health outcomes.
