UC Davis CAARE Center participates in Child Abuse Prevention Month

(SACRAMENTO)

"Child Abuse Prevention Month," recognized annually in April, provides organizations an opportunity to promote children’s well‑being, strengthen families, and elevate prevention‑focused efforts across California. This year’s statewide theme, “Strong Families, Safe Futures,” emphasized that when families are supported and empowered, children thrive. The tagline, “When we care together, families thrive,” reinforced the importance of collective action and community connection.

Throughout April, the CAARE Center engaged staff, clients, and families through awareness activities, including providing blue awareness pins for staff and interactive, family‑friendly activities in the waiting room focused on prevention and education.

Additionally, the CAARE Center participated in the 36th Annual Kids Day in the Park event on April 25, hosting a booth to connect directly with the community. The free event provided an opportunity for staff to share informational brochures and flyers about CAARE Center services, increase awareness of child abuse prevention, and strengthen trust with families. Staff wore blue in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month and took a group photo to commemorate the event.

The CAARE Center participates in community outreach events to increase access to mental health services and build trust with community members. At a time when families are facing increased stress related to housing instability, food insecurity, and rising mental health needs among children, it is critical that families know where and how to access support. We want the community to know that the UC Davis CAARE Center offers programs and services to help.
