Call for Nominations: School of Medicine’s Early Career Faculty Leadership Development Program

(SACRAMENTO)

The Early Career Faculty Leadership Development Program is designed to support assistant professors and recently promoted associate professors in the School of Medicine as they begin to take on leadership roles across research, education, clinical care, and institutional service.

The inaugural cohort (12–15 participants) will be selected through nominations and self-nominations, with 3–4 participants representing each of the basic sciences, medical sciences, surgical sciences, and the Health Sciences Educators’ Academy for Learning (HEAL). All applicants must include a brief note of support from their Department Chair.

Program Overview

This program focuses on:

  • Foundational leadership skills in academic medicine
  • Navigating academic and institutional structures
  • Developing a personal leadership identity

Participants will engage in eight interactive sessions beginning September 1, with an in-person gathering the week prior to the first session. Sessions will be held on Tuesday evenings (5:15 – 6:45 p.m. via Zoom), with a mix of 90-minute and one-hour sessions.

Eligibility:

  • Hold the rank of assistant professor an associate professor, promoted within the past two years (on or before July 1, 2024)
  • Demonstrate interest or early experience in leadership (e.g., lab leadership, program development, committee service)

Nominations are accepted through May 15.

    • Why this program, and why now
    • Current leadership roles or aspirations
    • Which represented category you fall into
    • Chair support note (1 paragraph)
