A new study published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry from UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center finds that TIGIT (T cell immunoreceptor with Ig and ITIM domains) triggers a different response in rhesus macaques compared to humans. The study shows that rhesus macaques shed TIGIT from the surfaces of immune cells when exposed to plasmin.
A targeted gene therapy that kills cancer cells infected with Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus while sparing healthy tissue has been created by UC Davis researchers. The approach uses an adeno-associated virus to deliver a modified thymidine kinase enzyme, which activates ganciclovir into a cancer-killing agent in only infected cells.
