Our expert team

Fetal surgery and other consultative and diagnostic services at the Fetal Care and Treatment Center are made possible by the breadth and depth of expertise at UC Davis Health, including specialists from the children’s hospital, obstetrics and gynecology, and surgery. Your coordinated services at the center can involve any number of maternal-fetal, neonatal and pediatric physicians along with other providers from a number of other specialty and support services.

  • Interim Co-director

    Payam Saadai, M.D.

    Payam Saadai is the interim co-director at UC Davis Fetal Care and Treatment Center. He has a joint appointment as a pediatric surgeon at Shriners Children’s Northern California. He specializes in general pediatric surgery with particular interest in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, fetal intervention, and pediatric colorectal disorders including Hirschsprung’s disease and anorectal malformations.

    Amelia S. McLennan, M.D.

    Amelia S. McLennan, M.D., is co-director of the Fetal Care and Treatment Center where she performs in-utero fetal procedures along with a team of specialists including pediatric surgery and cardiology. She specializes in maternal fetal medicine, offering care for women with a range of high-risk medical, surgical, and fetal conditions during pregnancy.

    Nurse practice manager

    Amy Powne, M.S.N., R.N.

    Amy B Powne, M.S.N., R.N., is nurse practice manager for the Fetal Care and Treatment Center (FCTC), overseeing all the FCTC operations. Powne received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from California State University, Sacramento and began her nursing career as a bedside registered nurse in the UC Davis Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in May 2005. She received her master’s degree in nursing in December 2011 from California State University, Dominguez Hills, and, in November 2016, began formalizing and building the FCTC.

A partnership for comprehensive care

Nationally recognized spina bifida program

UC Davis Children’s Hospital and Shriners Children’s offer one of the largest and well-known spina bifida programs in the nation. Through this partnership, children and their families have access to renowned physicians and surgeons for the care and management of spinal cord disorders throughout childhood.

UC Davis Health specialties in the spina bifida program include physical medicine and rehabilitation, pediatric urology, pediatric orthopaedics, fetal surgery, and pediatric neurosurgery.
