Director’s Fellowship

The Director’s Fellowship recognizes outstanding early-career investigators with the potential to lead cancer research at UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center.

This fellowship provides scholars with the opportunity to:

  • Serve as principal investigator of a research project for up to one year
  • Develop and manage research funds
  • Submit progress reports and present findings
  • Gain experience in proposal writing and oral presentation
  • Demonstrate the ability to secure independent research funding

Fellowship Benefits

  • $1,500 for research materials and supplies

Open to undergraduate, postbaccalaureate, graduate (Ph.D., M.S.), postdoctoral, and health professional students (Nursing, Medicine, Veterinary, MPH) at UC Davis. Up to three awards are given each year, including one award for undergraduate and two awards for graduate students.

Applicants must:

  • Be an active Affiliate Scholar at the time of application
  • Submit a two-page proposal including:
    • Background and Significance
    • Specific Aims
    • Impact
  • Provide a letter of support from their mentor(s)
  • Submit a mid-year progress report (a half a page by January 15 of the following year to hs-cancerscholars@health.ucdavis.edu)
  • Present findings at the Ralph de Vere White Symposium for Early Career Investigators in Cancer

Application Submission

  • Complete and submit the fellowship application form
  • Upload your two-page proposal and letter of support. Mentor letter must commit intellectual and facility support to the project
