Sharon Raimundo wanted to do something to recognize what her son, Joey, who was 3 years old at the time of his diagnosis, went through during leukemia treatments. She and her friends formed the "Bald Chicks" team and participated in the March St. Baldrick's Foundation head-shaving event at UC Davis Cancer Center, where more than 100 people voluntarily lost their hair to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. Since 2004, more than $280,000 from St. Baldrick's, through the Keaton Raphael Memorial, has supported UC Davis pediatric cancer programs, including clinical trials of a new drug, new diagnostic tools and a fellowship program.
