Founders and supporters of the Auburn Community Cancer Endowment Fund marked the organization's
second anniversary in July with a reception and dinner. The group had much to celebrate: In just two years
the community campaign has raised $500,000 to support research at the UC
Davis Cancer Center.
The fund got a welcome boost in June when Oakland Raiders legend Jim Otto, a longtime Auburn resident
and a prostate cancer survivor, hosted his Swing at Cancer Celebrity Golf Classic. The event drew more
than 30 professional athletes, including seven football Hall of Famers (Otto was elected to the Hall of
Fame in 1980). Held at the Auburn Valley Country Club, the one-day tournament and evening cocktail party
and auction netted $140,000.
