The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine welcomes Dr. John Bishop
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is delighted to welcome Dr. John Bishop back to UC Davis Medical Center as our Director of Surgical Pathology and Immunohistochemistry, and we are honored to have him as a member of our team.
Dr. John Bishop graduated from Yale University cum laude with a Bachelors of Arts in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry in 1973. He went on to study Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine and received his Medical Degree in February, 1977. Following his formal education, Dr. Bishop completed an Internship in categorical pathology at Tufts-New England Medical Center Hospitals and then his Pathology Residency (AP-CP) at the Naval Regional Medical Center (NRMC) San Diego.
Dr. Bishop began his professional career with the Navy, and later served on the faculty at UCDavis School of Medicine from 1999-2001. He has also had faculty positions at Creighton University School of Medicine and the University of Cincinnati. Most recently, Dr. Bishop was Medical Director of the Gynecor® division of Bostwick Laboratories Inc.,. He is a recognized leader in the field of cytologic automation and immunohistochemistry, and has many publications on these topics.
Dr. Bishop holds medical licenses in 20 states and is certified in Anatomic & Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology by the American Board of Pathology. He is also certified in Cytogenetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics.
Dr. Bishop is a Fellow of both the College of American Pathologists and the International Academy of Cytology. He holds memberships with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, American Society of Cytopathology, United States - Canadian Academy of Pathology, Histochemical Society and American Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology.
