This guide is for newly hired employees at to UC Davis Health (Sacramento). If you are visiting UC Davis Health, please click here for patient/visitor parking information. Students or existing employees, click here for permit options.
UC Davis Health comprises a diverse, highly skilled team of employees who work together to give and help provide excellent health care every day and support exceptional health care for everyone. We trust you will find working on campus a rewarding experience. Below, you will find parking and commute options as a valued, new UC Davis Health team member.
What you need to know about Parking
Being a part of the UC Davis team begins when you leave your home. Before you travel to work, you must decide how you will get here and, if you drive, where to park.
- The Parking Department offers subsidies and benefits to help us meet the University of California's sustainability goals by utilizing public transit, carpooling, biking, or walking to work.
- If you drive, you should know that employees are responsible to pay for and have a valid permit at all times when parking at the UC Davis Medical Center. You may choose to pay monthly or save money by paying daily. Unfortunately, there is no free parking at the Sacramento Campus.
- Spaces often fill up quickly, so Parking provides a free employee/visitor shuttle service that runs every 7-10 minutes to all parking lots, 24 hours per day Monday – Friday, to help get you from your car to work or travel between buildings. View shuttle schedule here. When planning your commute, include additional time to find a parking space and to get to your building.
Pre-employment (before your first day)
Employees new to the UC Davis Health campus may receive a "Employee Welcome Permit" at no charge. Ask your onboarding specialist to send an invite by email. This permit allows you to park for pre-employment visits such as health screenings, background checks, and other required activities. It also allows you to park in any Employee “B” space at the Medical Center (see map) and is valid for up to 7 calendar days from your first day, giving you time to determine your commute and parking needs once you begin work.
Commute Options
There are many different ways to get to work besides driving alone. Consider the options below; many of these options include subsidies and benefits that could save you money, time, and stress:
- Transit/Light Rail: Parking offers up to $100 monthly in subsidies towards your transit commute expenses. For some services like Regional Transit (SacRT), this is the total current price of a monthly pass, which means that you can choose to use SacRT light rail and bus services to get to work at no cost to you.
- Elk Grove Shuttle: Parking has partnered with SacRT to provide a convenient shuttle service from Elk Grove to the Health campus. There is currently no charge to ride the Elk Grove Shuttle. See: Elk Grove Express Bus schedule.
- Causeway Connection: Live in Davis? This Intercampus services runs between the UC Davis Campus and the Sacramento Medical Center (view schedule). The UC Davis Health Causeway Connection shuttle service is free to ride for employees, however, if you choose to park on the Davis campus, you must pay for parking there.
- Carpool: Carpooling is a great way to share costs and save on parking. If you are interested in joining or forming a new carpool of two or more people but do not know of anyone making the same commute, please complete the Carpool Interest Form.
- Vanpool: A vanpool may consist of 5 or more employees who work on site at least three days per week. The majority of vanpools commute from distances of 15 or more miles away. Parking provides a $100/month subsidy towards the monthly cost of the vanpool.
- Bike: Cycling is a great way to commute to work! Your bike must be registered with Bike Index, and you will need a registration sticker to qualify as a bike commuter and receive Green Commuter benefits.
- Walk: Do you live within a mile of the Medical Center? You can choose to be a walk commuter! Choosing an active commute method, like walking, provides many overlooked benefits, such as incorporating exercise into everyday life, increased productivity, and reduced stress levels.
- Drop Off: Will you be dropped off and picked daily? Employees dropped off on campus may register as a Green Commuter and receive benefits.
Please visit our Green Commuter page for additional information about alternate transportation methods and benefits.
Employee Parking
Where should you park? Most types of parking permits fall into one of two classifications, which determine where you may park as an employee: “B” parking or reserved “D” parking. Regardless of which type you choose, all parking at the Medical Center Sacramento Campus requires a permit (see next section for permit options and pricing):
“B” Parking
B lots are the most common and most economical parking option. B parking is allowed in multiple lots across the campus (see map). However, space is not guaranteed and spots do fill up quickly. Note: UC Davis Health B permits are not valid on city streets. |
Reserved “D” Parking
D parking costs more but guarantees space in a specific, assigned area, lot, or structure closer to your work location. D permitholders may also park in any “B” space, if needed. D permits are limited to ensure parking availability. A wait or approval process is required to get “D” parking in most locations. |
Employees with doctor-issued medical accommodation requirements, disabled placards, or specific medical needs may be eligible for permission to park in employee handicap parking or gain access to parking near their building on a case-by-case basis. A valid parking permit must accompany accommodations; all employees are required to pay for parking at the Health campus.
Electric vehicle charging is available to staff on a first-come, first-served basis in several locations. Please visit our EV Charging page for further details and usage restrictions.
Daily Parking vs Monthly Permit Options
Monthly Parking Permits:
Monthly parking is charged in full at the beginning of each month and is valid the whole month:
- Monthly B permits cost $58/month. B Permitholders may park in any space designated for B parking, including Parking Structure 2 and 3 during weekends and evenings.
- Monthly D permits cost $109/month. D permitholders may park in their assigned D location 24/7, in addition to B permit privileges.
- Monthly T permits cost $89/month. T permits have the same privileges as “D” permits (see above), except that permitholders may only park in their assigned D location during specific times as specified by your permit. T permitholders may also park in any “B” space 24/7. T permits cost less than “D” permits due to the restrictions and are most suitable for those working a mid-shift and needing closer parking.
- Monthly Carpool permits start at $7.54/month per person. Carpool permits are single permits shared by two or more individuals driving together. In addition to parking in any “B” parking space 24/7, carpools may also park in designated carpool spaces. Pricing depends on parking location and the number of people in the carpool.
Daily Parking Permits:
Daily parking costs less than monthly parking and allows you the flexibility to choose how you commute daily – which also means you only pay for the days you need to park. Daily parking is suitable for anyone wishing to save money and those who telecommute part-time, occasionally carpool, or walk/bike when the weather is favorable, but need to drive some of the time:
- Daily B permit parking is $2.32 per day for employees. Daily permits are purchased through the ParkMobile app. Sign in to the ParkMobile app using your @ucdavis.edu email address and use zone# 42201 to receive the discounted affiliate rate of $2.32 per day. Parking all 21 workdays in a typical month using daily parking would cost $48.72.
- Daily D permit parking is $2.32 per day + $51 per month (paid separately) to reserve space in your assigned location. Daily permits for monthly reserved D parking are purchased through the ParkMobile app (use zone# 42401). Parking all 21 workdays in a typical month using daily parking would cost $99.72.
- Daily T permit parking is $2.32 per day + $31 per month (paid separately) to reserve space in your assigned location. Daily permits for monthly reserved D parking are purchased through the ParkMobile app (use zone# 42401). Parking all 21 workdays in a typical month using daily parking would cost $79.72.
Patient/Visitor Parking
To ensure that parking is available for patients and visitors, employees are not allowed to park in spaces designated for patients and visitors. This includes visitor parking in Parking Structure 2, 3, valet parking, hourly lots 11, 8, etc. We recognize that employees and their dependents can also seek care at UC Davis Health. Therefore, employees may park in connection with a medical appointment for themselves or a dependent however you must first acquire a “medical permit” from Parking (no charge) to avoid receiving a citation by mistake. Note: Employees parking in visitor areas are subject to visitor parking costs at the standard rate. Employees may never receive parking validation when parking for work.
Enforcement
Parking is enforced 24/7. Vehicles parked without a proper permit, improperly parked, or in fire zones, loading zones, disabled spaces without a placard, etc., are subject to citation. If you receive a citation, do not ignore it. Failure to pay or appeal within 21 days will result in additional fees attached to your DMV record.
