Dear DAISY Award Committee,

I am honored to nominate Christine Fonseca for the DAISY Award for their extraordinary leadership and commitment to excellence in nursing during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a Quality Nurse in our Ambulatory Care Department, Christine has been instrumental in leading our COVID-19 vaccination initiative and has played a pivotal role in reviewing and developing new policies to enhance our ambulatory care services. Moreover, she has effectively contributed to the reduction of medication errors in the ambulatory care setting at UC Davis Health by providing impromptu and scheduled education to all categories of staff in our ambulatory care division. As we all know, this was not an easy task, considering the perpetual changes that came with the vast variety of vaccines, and CDC and FDA guidelines.

Throughout the pandemic, Christine Fonseca organized and led our COVID-19 vaccination education, which was critical in ensuring the health and safety of our community. Her meticulous attention to detail, comprehensive planning, and compassionate approach ensured that all our nurses in ambulatory care understood the guidelines, and that the vaccinations were being administered safely. Christine’s efforts were crucial in instilling public trust and confidence in our healthcare services during a period of widespread uncertainty. In addition to their remarkable leadership for the vaccines education components, Christine has also been dedicated to enhancing our department’s operational policies, and EMR workflows along with our Ambulatory Care Executive Leadership. Recognizing the evolving challenging of the pandemic, she spearheaded a review of our existing practices and led the development of innovative policies that have significantly improved our responsiveness and patient care quality. Her work not only has impacted our COVID-19 response but has also set a new standard for patient care in all areas of ambulatory service.

Christine’s dedication to her profession and her innovate approach to nursing quality and patient safety exemplify the spirit of the DAISY Award. She has not only contributed to our immediate goals but has also laid the foundation for long-term improvements in our healthcare delivery. For example, now we use Christine’s format for providing formulary changes for education to our clinical staff in ambulatory care. Please accept this nomination as a testament to Christine’s outstanding contributions to our department and the broader community. Her leadership and dedication during these unprecedented times make her a deserving recipient of this prestigious recognition.
