Our family so much appreciates the care my son received. His nurse Robin was not only highly competent and skilled, but she was also warm, gentle, attentive, and lighthearted. Having spent over 12 hours on the unit a number of things struck me.

I am incredibly grateful and honored to work with nurses like Robin who have committed her entire career at the bedside to the direct care of patients with integrity, compassion, courage and most importantly, love.

The nursing staff had no hospital unit secretary coordinator (HUSC) but no phones rung for very long. I observed at least half a dozen exchanges where nurses asked other nurses what they could do to help or they just appeared having already completed a necessary task. I saw individual nurses checking a supply cart and without being asked retrieved what they needed from the supply room but also restocked the cart for their colleagues. It was peaceful and calm and the staff not only gave outstanding care to my son but they clearly took care of each other. They also went above and beyond to keep me and my spouse comfortable, offering drink and food and communicating the care plan clearly. Robin in particular is so singular in making us feel at ease. She got customized my son’s meal requests, gave me valuable parenting advice, gave me great restaurant recommendations, and helped coordinate care from the primary and consulting services. She is extraordinary.

I commented on the incredible nursing culture in the unit and was surprised to learn they had lost seven nurses to abrupt retirements during the pandemic. The remaining staff, I was told, have worked short staffed but as such have become very close and have created a culture where they work hard to check in and help each other .

If I had to have a loved one be hospitalized again, I would 100% want them to be in Tower 7 MSICU Gold.
