The purpose of this research is to better understand how stressful life events can impact aging and memory issues in older Vietnamese Americans.
Vietnamese Americans are the 4th largest Asian group in the U.S. However, we know very little about memory loss and aging in older Vietnamese Americans. We also do not know the risk factors that occur throughout life that may contribute to memory problems in later life. Risk factors are things such as early life stress or later life health conditions (e.g., high blood pressure, cholesterol, etc.). The purpose of this study is to understand factors that impact thinking and memory in the Vietnamese American community. We also hope to better understand how stressful life events can impact memory in older Vietnamese Americans.
You will be asked to participate in three annual study visits over the course of 3 years. Each visit will last 3-4 hours
Being in this study will not help you directly, but your participation in the study may benefit other people in the future by helping us learn more about memory loss and aging in Vietnamese American communities. This has the potential to help future generations of Vietnamese Americans experiencing memory loss and their families.
VIP is supported by the National Institutes of Health.
