Encouraging Department Collaboration

WIMHS launched the “Departmental Liaisons” program in 2019 to better support women’s careers in academic health across the 19 clinical and 7 academic departments at the UC Davis School of Medicine and the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. Faculty members from any series at any rank may serve as Departmental Liaison, and mid-career faculty are especially encouraged to consider this role.

Program Details

Liaison Role

  • Identify department-specific needs to guide WIMHS initiatives
  • Inform their department of upcoming WIMHS activities
  • Identify collaborative opportunities between their department and WIMHS (co-sponsored speakers etc.)

Liaison Responsibilities

  • Participate in quarterly Departmental Liaison meetings
  • Attend a minimum of three WIMHS sponsored events per year, including the annual WIMHS Fall Welcome
  • Hold at least one WIMHS event for their department annually
  • Participate in a 1:1 meeting annually with WIMHS Director/Associate Director
  • Commit to a two-year Departmental Liaison term
  • Inform WIMHS Director of upcoming recruitments, collaborative opportunities, etc.

Liaison Benefits

  • Access to funding for departmental WIMHS event(s)
  • Quarterly Departmental Liaison meetings that provide career development and networking opportunities
  • Priority registration for WIMHS sponsored events with limited space
