BurnNet Survivor Support Groups

The Firefighters Burn Institute Regional Burn Center offers a safe environment, focused on providing support and reintegration, through the BurnNet survivor groups and activities. We collaborate with the Firefighters Burn Institute to include opportunities to assist our patients with reintegrating into the community after a burn injury. Together we offer activities such as stand-up paddle boarding, lunches, walking groups, and community picnics.
UC Davis Health provides peer support, in partnership with the Phoenix Society. Phoenix SOAR (Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery) volunteers, serve as a source of hope and inspiration to those experiencing a burn injury.

The Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) program is the American Burn Association's premier educational resource for the emergency care of burn injuries. Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) Live provides knowledge for immediate care of the burn patient up to the first 24 hours post-injury. ABLS programs also support emergency and mass casualty preparedness focusing on triage, burn survivability, patient transportation, and patient treatment. ABLS is relevant to a wide range of professionals who treat individuals with burn injuries including first responders, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and physicians.  Upon successful completion, all providers will receive a certificate of completion (renewable after 4 years). Physicians and nurses are also eligible for continuing education credit.

Phoenix Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery (SOAR) is a program designed by The Phoenix Society to address the needs of burn patients and their families by providing one-on-one peer support and mentoring during the journey of recovery. Peer support assists individuals in adapting to a burn injury through sharing similar experiences. This resource is available to people in the process of burn injury recovery or who may have physically recovered from burn injuries (even decades previously) but may have never had an opportunity to talk about it with someone else who has had a similar experience. Contact our Phoenix SOAR Coordinator 916-734-5596 or email lhspink@ucdavis.edu

Every Wed. evening, 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. PST

The Phoenix Society hosts a weekly, moderated Internet Chat that offers peer support for survivors, family, and friends affected by a burn injury. Participation is welcomed regardless of how recent or how long ago the injury was received. To enter the chat room, go to www.phoenix-society.org
