Living donation is when a healthy person gives one of their kidneys to someone with kidney failure. The donor can be a family member (called a living-related donor) or someone close to the person, like a spouse or friend (called a living-unrelated donor). Living donation is often called “The Gift of Life” because it can free the recipient from dialysis and help them live a longer, healthier, and more active life. For the donor, it is a meaningful and generous act, but it is also an important decision that requires careful thought.

If you choose to move forward, you will work with a team of experienced professionals who are dedicated to your health and safety. The UC Davis Transplant Team is proud to be part of the 15,000 kidney transplants performed each year in the United States, with more than 40 percent coming from living donors. We look forward to supporting you and your loved one through a successful living donor transplant.
