Pediatric Nephrology Research

  • Lavjay Butani, M.D.

    Lavjay Butani’s research interests are focused on improving the outcomes after kidney transplantation in children by the optimal use of newer immunosuppressive medications and regimens and through other strategies to improve graft and patient survival, by conducting analyses of large national transplant databases.

    His other interest is in the field of medical education, in exploring professional identity formation, professionalism and reflective practice in learners across the educational continuum.

  • Arundhati Kale, M.D.

    Arundhati Kale currently has a grant to validate a new test for cell free DNA in pediatric renal transplant recipients to establish baseline values as well as correlate it with biopsy findings in the detection of acute rejection. This test detects evidence for acute rejection and may help avoid unnecessary biopsies in transplant patients.

    Stephanie Nguyen's current research projects include investigating the role of diet and obesity on the development of kidney disease and hypertension, and studying outcomes of hypertension in children with diabetes mellitus.

    Gia Oh's research interests include chronic kidney disease, glomerular disease, and nephrotic syndrome. She is the center principal investigator for North American Pediatric Renal Transplant Cooperative Study (NAPRTCS), a national registry study for children with chronic kidney disease.
