Director: Kent Lloyd, D.V.M., Ph.D.

The goal of Mouse Biology Shared Resource is to meet the needs of UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center investigators, utilizing genetically altered, surgically manipulated (e.g., PDX) and other mouse models for basic, clinical and translational research.

The Mouse Biology Shared Resource offers many services, including:

  • Mouse model creation services (generation of knockout and transgenic mouse strains, gene targeting by homologous recombination in embryonic stem cells, CRISPR gene editing, procurement, heterotopic PDX modeling including primary tumors and frozen tissues, importation and rederivation to generate pathogen-free mice, strain cryopreservation and resuscitation, assisted reproduction procedures)
  • Mouse husbandry and maintenance services (colony management, health surveillance and disease prevention, SPF, high-containment barrier, gnotobiotic, and ABSL3 vivaria, sharing and distribution of strains)
  • Mouse phenotyping services (gross and microscopic pathology, small animal imaging procedures)
  • Training in mouse biology and mouse models of cancer, consultation on experimental design and planning and project management.

The Mouse Biology Shared Resource coordinates the activities of a number of campus resources to serve researchers using genetically altered mice as models for the study of cancer.  These campus resources include the UC Davis Mouse Biology Program, the M3 Specific Pathogen-Free Barrier Facility, the Gnotobiotic Mouse Resource Center, the Teaching and Research Animal Care Services, the Comparative Pathology Laboratory, the Mutant Mouse Resource and Research Center, the Knockout Mouse Production and Phenotyping Project, the Mouse Metabolic Phenotyping Center and others.
