Health Equity Leadership Development Program

Advancing leadership for a future of better health care for all. 

The purpose of this initiative is to: 

  1. Develop a cadre of leaders in health care equipped with skills to identify and understand health disparities and lead others to advance health equity; 
  2. Assist participants to develop, advance, or improve a health equity project or initiative in their service area.  

Program instruction is held in-person over 6 sessions, with asynchronous project/initiative action plan development. Project action plans will be presented in the final session of the series for a total of seven sessions. 

The application period for Spring has closed. Please check again for the Fall cohort.

Timing

  • 7 sessions (February-May, usually Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) 
    • February 26, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
    • March 12, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
    • March 19, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (note different time)
    • April 2, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
    • April 16, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
    • April 30, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
    • May 21, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Program Activities

  • In-person presentations/content delivered by leaders & experts in health equity 
  • Project/Initiative Action Plan Development  
  • Data Plan  
    • Community Engagement Plan  
    • Implementation & Change Management Plan 
    • Evaluation Plan 
  • Presentation of Project/Initiative Action Plan 
    • Opportunity to share a project presentation with HELD colleagues/faculty and receive feedback 

Additional support

  • One-on-one consulting with a subject matter expert in health equity
  • Funds available on as-needed-basis to support modest one-time costs or seed funding

  • Service Area Leaders (Directors/Managers, Unit Managers, Implementation Team Leads) with influence and authority in their service areas, workflows, etc. 
  • Committed to health equity, with an identified disparity or opportunity for improvement  
  • Data Resource: Either 1) existing data or access to data needed or 2) limited or no data needs to design initiative. 
  • Willingness to: 
    • Work on program activities asynchronously prior to and in-between sessions 
    • Present and socialize initiative drafts with peers 
    • Report project status 6-months post program completion 

How to apply

Apply by January 9, 2025 via the application form. The application includes written responses, general application questions, and opt-ins to program commitments. (Note: you will not be able to save a draft of the form) 

Consider the following questions application that require written responses. 

  1.  What motivates you to participate in this program? 
  2. Briefly describe your role, responsibilities, and scope of influence. How do you anticipate applying this program to your role? 
  3. What experience (if any) do you have with projects or initiatives to advance health equity? 
  4. Within your current service area or scope of responsibilities, please describe the project opportunity you have identified to advance health equity including: 
    • How you identified the disparity/need (e.g. informal feedback, data, etc.) 
    • Existing or prospective barriers to addressing this opportunity 
  5. What skills or experience would you like to further develop to ensure the success of your proposed project? 
  6. Please describe what data, if any, is needed to inform your project/initiative, and any resources you have to support the analysis and interpretation 

  • Application period opens = November 18, 2025 
  • Applications Due by = January 9, 2026
  • Notification of acceptance into pilot cohort = by January 23, 2026 
  • Program begins: late February 26, 2026
